I am a better person and a better mother because of my mental illness

Learning to advocate for what I need, prioritizing my health, and accepting my experiences is the most important thing I could have done for myself and for my family

A year later, I have accepted that medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes are tools to support me; I know that getting better isn’t the goal, rather it’s to thrive as a woman with a mental illness; and that there is no one better off without me

I hope my kids will see me and remember I gave it my all, not that I stumbled along the way and that they’ll advocate fiercely for themselves and for others

If you are struggling, I see you. You are worth focusing on. Let people in.
